If you say it enough, it must be true.

Last night President Obama made his State of the Union speech. I have to admit that I don’t agree with everything he says or does, but I do like him as a public speaker. He’s got that skill down perfect. I mean this dude can sell an apple computer to bill gates, he’s that good at delivering speeches…

So I watched the State of the Union speech, I initially was sitting on my couch upright focused on what our elected president was saying, and through the speech I found myself getting irritated it was exhausting and by the end of the speech I had fell over and was sleeping, so yes I missed the end but that’s ok.

So why was I irritated? It’s simple. I like our country, I think we have a great thing going for us. See we live in a free market system… Or at least we used to where when an in-balance happened in time the market would straighten itself out. There are tons of case studies and examples in history on how if you let the free market work, it will restore balance to itself through choices people make.  So when I heard Obama talking about how he didn’t want to do the bank bailout but he had to because without doing it things may have gotten worse, more jobs lost, more homes foreclosed. But you see he uses the word “MAY” which means he doesn’t know, how can he? No one really knows what would have happened. So saying that he through billions at banks and because of that we saved X number of jobs is all fake information. It’s that info that is spread to make everyone feel all warm inside, where they can pat themselves on the back saying “we did good.” But the truth is, the bank bailout in my opinion should have never happened. I do believe in the free market system working itself out and who’s to say the recovery of our society ISN’T the free market system at work? I’m wondering if the money even did anything or if the fact it’s been a while since this whole thing happened if the free market corrected itself, and we threw money down the drain…

In fact I’m pretty sure we threw money down the drain. Let me explain why. See when Obama bailed out the banks he did so using money that we don’t have, if you have any debt you don’t have any money because every dollar you have is actually someone else’s you borrowed. So we lent all this money we don’t have and said “this is for banks and we are going only use it for that.” So fast forward a year or however long it’s been and listen to the State of the Union speech where Obama says that he wants to use this money that was repaid and spend that billions on small businesses now so banks will lend to them…… WTF just happened here? Taxpayers were opposed to the bank bailout and now the money’s been returned and rather then pay off the debt that it created were just going to spend that money somewhere else?

But don’t worry, Obama has a plan for that, see he’s also wanting to put fee’s on the big banks that are giving massive  bonuses because “they can afford it” if they can afford to give bonuses. But if my theory on greed is correct and from what I’ve seen in retail worlds the government is going to impose these fees on these big banks, etc and who do you think is going to pay those fees? The business? Heck no, they will just raise their rates to the customers like individuals and small businesses which means YOU tha taxpayer are paying the fees levied by the government to these big banks which got YOUR money to stay in business….. Just how many stupid things can we do at one time?

And I am sentimental towards businesses closing. I lost my job last year after the company I worked at for over 7 years filed bankruptcy and shut down without giving me any notice, severance, etc and I had to move several hundred miles to find a new job. That meant I had to sell my home at a tremendous loss because Wall Street and the banks got greedy so chalk up another large amount of money I am paying because of their errors. And we bought a small, modest house well within our means. I mean our mortgage lender we had was saying we could afford a $250,000 house and we knew we couldn’t so we only bout a $120,000 house. We were smart and still got our heads taken off.  So yes I know the pain when your business shuts down and you are out of work. In my case my wife and I made large sacrifices to sell our home and move on with our lives. So many people I know refuse to move to where jobs are. They want to stay close to family and yet stay out of work.  So many people I worked with at my last job are still out of work over a year later and hardly any of them want to move out of the area like I did.

But in life you have to make sacrifices to succeed. This attitude that “I deserve” is bogus. You don’t deserve anything, As a society we need to grow up and realize what’s going on. Because the heads in Washington really are out of touch. I applaud what Obama was saying in some areas I think he had some great points like giving tax breaks to companies in America that have jobs over here and impose extra levies on those that outsource. Yes those fees will be handed down to the customer in the forms of higher prices for goods, but that will make the outsourced products the same price with quality American made. So in that regards it works.

I don’t know, I feel like I’m starting to ramble here and it just really irritates me to listen to these speeches and hear so much and be sitting there going through my head the countless ways it isn’t going to work. But Mr. President if you are confident that bailing banks MAY have saved jobs then good for you, that is where we disagree.

And I’m sick of this “don’t ask don’t tell” B.S.  If your gay or straight I couldn’t care less. I applaud you for being in our military no matter who you are or what you desire. But I honestly don’t think our tax money, or our time should be spent on such an idiotic policy as “don’t ask don’t tell.” In my eyes this is a policy that should never have been put into place. To steal a line from one comedian this goes on the page right after “are we eating to much peanut butter as a people.” I mean is “Don’t ask don’t tell” really that critical in our nations interest or security?  Sometimes I just can’t believe how crooked the priorities are……

And don’t get me started with party lines… Oh it just irritates me to see half the room applaud and the other half sitting pissed off in those state of the unions. It’s like no one can think for themselves and we wonder why NOTHING ever comes out of the government. You ever watch the British house of parliament? I used to watch that for a few hours when it was on a station I had and I loved how things were done. Everything was swift and people just stood up yelling and cheering. But stuff appeared to get done. In our land you can’t get anything done… Why can’t we just have everyone in the government have their own minds and vote for whats right based on ohh say the peoples will and NOT politics. It’s so freaking childish it’s ridiculous.

I should run for president… We need like Ty Pennington to take his extreme makeover crew to D.C. and just tear down the current people and let’s just restart from scratch. We have far to many people in places holding up progress. Some are so old they aren’t in touch with what needs to happen and some are just to owned by the lobbyist who pays them to make the right decisions…

I need to stop otherwise I’ll have a novel the length of war and peace on my gripes.

MSNBC – The "faux news" company where they lie to you and push their agenda… Opps you got caught!

August 26th, 2009
No Gravatar

Watch this clip and listen to the commentary. Listen closely…

Ok, now, look at the image below FROM msnbc.com that was taken on 8/26/2009 ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32492783/ns/us_news-life/)

guns

Do you see the problem? MSNBC in the VIDEO cropped the shot so much you couldn’t see if the gun carrying person was white or black and from the commentary they made it sound like it was a white racist as the lady said “this may have a racial overtone and you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns” and turned the entire conversation into how this was about racism. And the black guy on the news is talking about how there is “anger over a black man being president” and then goes on to say how people are angry “we see these hate groups rising up and this is definitely part of that” and yada yada yada. Such a load of crap in this story.

What they don’t tell you is that the gun carrying person with the handgun strapped to his side is actually a black man… In fact to save themselves you can see in the image the same shot taken from their website, only not cropped. How the hell can a news organization crop footage and spin the story to say that this guy is a white radical who is a racist, carrying a gun near obama and then say that they expect someone will try to harm the president because he is black.

I am DEEPLY disappointed in MSNBC. I used to visit MSNBC all the time but with this type of faux reporting and making up the news to push the agenda in the direction they want it to go I can’t trust them anymore.  And Fox News isn’t any better but this is just outright wrong and is enough for me to say I won’t be watching anymore news from MSNBC, and in fact the entire MSN universe is pretty much irrelevant at this point when it comes to news. And since MSN is owned by Microsoft,……. Well lets just say I’ll stick with Apple for my computers, The consumerist, Daily show and Colbert Report for my TV news and Armstrong and Getty Radio/podcast for my daytime news.

As if there weren’t enough problems in this country we don’t need news organizations creating false stories and lying to the nation. I think everyone in this story should be fired and a huge apology be made for their inaccurate reporting. And I don’t want that to be because they are forced into it by some upper management. No, I want them to lose their job because of the fact viewers are no longer watching their news channel and their ratings are plummeting. This is how the free market works. If we want the government to lead us they can fine them or whatever, but if we want our country to be as strong as it can be we have to let the people speak and utilize the free market model. Rewards the companies that do good, and stop doing business with those that are frauds. Do this and they will shut down.

If you want to see a good story about this exact same situation? Here’s local news from ABC

Really?

So I’m listening to the Michael Jackson coverage….. And I’m hearing all these black celebrities talking about Michael Jackson is responsible for Obama being President….. Come on now. I like Jackson, and Obama isn’t too bad either. But I think the reason Obama is president is not because of Jackson, it’s because the other candidates were far worse then Obama and Obama had some great ideas. At the time everyone said Obama had one of the best advertising campaigns of all time in presidental history which is what got him elected. His staff knew what they were doing and sold him to the country. Not once was Jackson mentioned during the Obama campaign and as far as I can remember he wasn’t invovled or solicited for his support so it’s very funny now to hear so many people saying Jackson was responsible for Obama. Come on people. Let’s give Obama credit for his accomplishments and give Jackson credit for his, but the two are unrelated in my eyes, as Colbert says “I don’t see color.”  Even Michael preached that with Black or White. And if the reasoning is because they are (or were) both black then what about the other famous musicians like Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, BB King, Fats Waller, etc. And I know he was the biggest but these other musicians were not chumps they were all famous as well.

I will say that there are some nice videos people put together of jackson songs, but these as far as I can remember were not actually used at all during Obama’s campaign.

Do you think pocket lint will ever become currency?

Barry………. Listen…… I didn’t vote for ya, in fact I didn’t vote for anybody cause the whole selection of people to vote from really wasn’t what I was looking for and didn’t like any of you. But you won… And you won on a ticket of “change.” So what is one of the first things you do? You allow the passing of a bill, in fact you insulted those in congress and the house to pass the bill quickly.

Here’s my issue. Well, in terms of this. See the bailout from what I understand is supposed to be helpful in turning the economy around. Just like the last bail out however no one is on board with it, in fact just like the last bail out that passed the stock market plunged. Down almost 400 points today, woohoo! So, that’s not different, Bush did that.

But the reason they gave for the need to pass the bailout so quickly was because of the need to spend money quickly and help the economy, yet most of the money isn’t even in a stimulus category. I wonder if they ever took out the piece that would pay to re-sod the national mall lawn? Cause after all, after President Obama’s party he had it got damaged. And the money that is stimulus won’t actually hit the economy for years they say. So what’s the rush?  What you want to run the american tax payer $1 trillion more dollars in debt? I’m so over the bail out, I mean we got the national financial crisis, each state has their own crisis and then there is my own financial crisis. How come my money is going to help the fed and not me?

I don’t know, I just think it’s funny when the government acts by bailing people out and the stock market plunges. The ironic thing, the stock market loved the first bailout, but then the next few rounds of hand-outs they didn’t much care for. Gee, do you think they will be back for more money too? Why not.

I wonder if Barry knew that this would happen. Perhaps thats why last night when he did his first prime time speech he did everything he could to avoid eye contact with the camera, the millions watching at home. You know, us that are funding the dang bail out, perhaps he couldn’t stand to look us “in the eye.”

And I don’t have anything against Obama, I’m just not mesmerized by the president like the rest of the nation appears to be. Heck I even heard they have already name streets and schools after the guy. I’m thinking to myself, slow down there people. Let’s actually see him DO something before we start praising him.

Anyways, that’s all I had to say. Bailout passed today under president barry’s leadership and not a dang thing has changed, just the amount of zero’s that were added to the national deficit.

I’m really hoping that tomorrow is a new day and president barrys bailout does the trick. But I wouldn’t bet the lint in my pocket that this bailout would do a darn bit of good. Cause you never know, if the economy keeps tanking lint may become a form of currency. That would be fun times.

The world is coming to an end… have we learned nothing?

November 9th, 2008
No Gravatar

I heard a quote that I love the other day. It says that “history does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme.” Now it took me a few minutes to totally appreciate that quote. I’m not a history buff, but I do know that every 4 years during election years there is always volatility in the economy. Jobs are lost, stocks waiver and reporters tell us how the world is going to end if the person they don’t like doesn’t win. I’m not sure about you but when I was a child I was read a story about Chicken little who went around telling everyone “the sky is falling.” Isn’t this the same thing? Fox news who claims they are fair and balanced was behind McCain and every chance they had would bash Obama. CNN who backed Obama would support him and bash McCain when they could. You almost have to watch both channels all the time to get a truly “fair and balanced” perspective.

It really isn’t the end of the world no matter who wins. Frankly both Obama and McCain scare me, but then again it’s because they are politicians. There is a history of politicians telling you what you want to hear and delivering very little. So to me hearing what they “want to do” doesn’t matter much. It really is more about the person and how I believe they would react to various situations.

So now Obama won by a landslide, and I think it’s for two reasons. First because he had one heck of a campaign. I mean this guy sold himself like no other. McCain on the other hand didn’t sell himself. It’s like he was running the worst campaign ever. I wonder if he even wanted to win. You would think that he would have been more visual, he would do more to get his name and face out. Did you know that Obama even went so far to create an iPhone/iPod touch app for his campaign? That was genius! You can tell which candidate was more knowledgeable with current technology by how it was utilized in the election. And with both of them wanting to digitize health records to save costs perhaps it is more beneficial to have someone who can actually use a computer. Heck Obama has several quotes showing he uses Youtube.

The second reason I think Obama won was because of the current republican party. People are just sick and tired of the same thing. Every day we turn on the TV and hear about billions more being spent on wars over seas while our economy tanks. I don’t believe in handing people money, but I do believe that we have plenty of homeless and others in our own nation that need assistance. And because no one but “the other guy” is being helped americans are sick of it.

Regardless who won the economy is in bad shape. And regardless who won it will continue to be for sometime. It does irritate me that both Obama and McCain voted for the $700 billion dollar bail out plan that had to be completed within a week to save the world. And now they are still figuring out what to do with the money. And of the money they distributed AIG used some to take 2 retreat/meetings. And other banks are sitting on it for “tougher times” as it said in one article I read. That’s right, we as tax payers appear to have paid $700 billion to give banks more money to sit on so they have reserves and extra cash to buy up their competitors when they fail. So I’m so glad that the money we are all paying for is being put to good use. Of course this was passed weeks ago and the economy is even worse now then it was…. So tell me how exactly did the bail out work? But have no fear, a second stimulus package might be passed soon so that’s even more money we get to throw down the drain! Woohoo.

Here’s my bailout plan. The companies that are failing, let them fail. Will it hurt the economy? Sure it will. But tell me isn’t it pretty lousy now? Companies that are not fiscally responsible should not be rewarded by being handed cash. They should be allowed to fail and other companies should take them over. Isn’t this what the saying “only the strong survive” means? When the world is deregulated as much as it was allowed to be this is bound to happen. The company I work for almost went under. Did the government throw us money? Nope. Instead we had to go through bankruptcy court, restructure and lost a lot of jobs, closed 107 stores and had to correct our mistakes. If we were buddies with anyone in Washington we probably could have continued doing business as usual which would have ultimately lost more money because we wouldn’t have changed our business practices. But we did and now are doing decent taken into account the economy.  I believe that throwing money at the problem will only delay the inevitable, businesses must fail, others must change their ways of doing business to survive. It’s a little something called evolution.

You can see the picture here that shows why businesses fail. It’s because they quit trying, they quit working. CEO’s get greedy, workers quit caring.

Another plan of action for my bail out plan. Rather then handing out money to people in the form of welfare that would stop immediately. There is to much trash on the streets, to many things that need to be done and I think if people want welfare the government should put them in community service type jobs and make them EARN  the money. Hmmm, earning money by working for it? What a concept! And I know there are some that can’t work physical jobs, so in home programs could be setup like data entry, making phone calls, envelope stuffing or other low impact jobs. Hell even make these people write a paper on what they will do with the money when they get it, and how it will better their lives. I bet most of those on welfare would refuse to work, but then they shouldn’t get the welfare check. After all, why am I paying for sally joe bob to stay at home with her 14 kids watching Jerry springer while I’m working 40-50 hours a week? People would stop getting handouts for doing nothing if I was in charge. The programs would still be available, but you would have to do something to get your check. Work, right a paper, just something.

But I digress. I’m tired of everyone bashing Obama and McCain. Am I happy with how it all turned out? I’m impartial. Do I think that good things are coming? Definitely, in fact I wish that we could start early with the president-elect. But then again no matter who won my attitude is the same. The reason is because regardless who won the election, these bumps would be happening, the stock market will waiver, but like a cold give it a little while without medication and it will heal itself. Treat it with the incorrect medicine and it only gets worse, and a government who has got us into so much debt in the last 8 years apparently only knows how to treat problems in one of two ways, going to war with it, or throwing money at it, then there is always the hybrid of going to war and throwing money. Treat it correctly and it will be healed in a very short amount of time. So hopefully there is a plan now that doesn’t include throwing money at the problem and instead actually focuses on fixing it.  But people just need to keep in mind that history rhymes. Every time there is an election year things get bad, come December or January everything will most likely be just fine.

But in the meantime, I’m enjoying the $2.09 a gallon gas. I’m contemplating taking some money and putting it in the stock market. After all, with stocks this low it’s a great time to buy! This part of the economic cycle is when people that make the right decisions can make serious money. It’s everyone with the “sky is falling” attitude that is killing it. Why not just yell “FIRE!!” in a crowded theatre?

Voting Schedule to ease the demand at polling places.

November 3rd, 2008
No Gravatar

I saw this today at work and wanted to post it since it seems like a good idea to help resolve the long lines, etc at the polling places. ;)

Good Morning,

As I’m sure you’re already aware, tomorrow is election day. Voting is a privilege that is important to me and I hope it is important to everyone. I would like for everyone to know that if you need to arrive to work a few minutes late or leave a few minutes early so that you have enough time to get to the polls, you’re encouraged to do so. All I ask is that you be sure to make your Supervisor or Manager aware of your plans.

Also, I think it’s important that everyone remember the new voting schedule this year. So that the polling places will not be overly crowded, I think I heard somewhere that if you’re voting for McCain, you should vote on Tuesday and if you’re voting for Obama, you should wait and vote on Wednesday.

Get it? Is funny!

Thanks,

Do I think we need a tax increase?

October 17th, 2008
No Gravatar

I have learned that this election really isn’t about the issues. People don’t seem to care about anything except who has the best tax plan. Sure Obama had potential ties with a domestic terrorist. Sure McCain maybe can a little help from Verizon and AT&T who both erectedmobile cell towers at his ranch that in one report said was free (telecom companies showing favoritism? say it aint so.)  Sure both of them spent a trillion dollars in a week. But no one seems to care about that, they just want to know who will give them a better tax break?

My response to that is I don’t know. What I do know is that we are in an economic situation right now where we owe a ton of money to China and other foreign countries.  The Fed keeps lowering the interest rate and now I believe it’s at 1.5%, it used to be up in the 7% range so when they lowered it yeah it had an impact, it actually MEANT something. I wouldn’t be surprised if they lower it another .25%-.5% . It’s going to really be a bad day when they hit 0% and have no leverage anymore. But then again, at 1.5% how much leverage do they have currently?

The issue we have now is our government keeps lowering everything… Except spending that is.

It seems like our governments mentality is that taxes should go down,  interest rate should be reduced to increase lending. And while we are getting less money into our government let’s spend a trillion dollars to bail out our friends on wall street. I ask this to you, where exactly is that money coming from? Certainly we don’t have an abundance of money. After all we have a huge national debt. And if we did have all that extra money wouldn’t it have been a much wiser decision to spend it on fixing the broken systems of America like ohh say Social Security, a system I have paid into since I was 16 years old and working and yet will NEVER see a dime from it? And some say, there is a chance you will. Well I read yesterday they are boosting some of the handouts they are giving to help those struggling which if my math is correct means it will be depleted even faster. Guess I need to get a second job so my neighbor can continue getting her check.

I don’t think we need a tax break or cut. I say raise taxes…on certian conditions. Do I really want to give my money to the government? Not at this time. But, if the government was more fiscally responsible I would have no issue at all paying more money to live in this country and make it a better place. but it seems like the more we put in the less we get out of it.

For example, AIG was given billions on 2 occasions by the government to help bail them out. Almost immediately the company took a $400,000 break and booked a resort where they could “talk about the problems.”

Isn’t that what they have a giant building with board rooms for? And what part of “talking about the problems” require you to get thousands in Spa and massage charges? Ohh I’m sorry I guess the stress of your friends in Washington handing you billions was too much.

Then AIG asked for more money and the government gave em more. And guess what, AIG executives took a hunting trip that racked up another $100,000+ in debt.

So I ask you Mr. Government what are you going to do to punish these people? You see I have no problem paying more money to you to help better the country in which we live. I don’t believe in socialism or elitism. I believe that you get what you give in life. I’m tired of poor people that don’t go get jobs and rely on food stamps complaining that they can’t make it, no jobs are available etc. I say quit being a victim and go make something out of your life. The government needs to quit supporting these people, they need to quit giving money to the rich for bailouts and they need to start showing the working class that the money they are paying in is doing some good.

You want to know how ridiculous the government is? A few months ago my wife needed a new laptop so we did some research looking for a great deal. After a few weeks I found that Office Depot had a great tablet PC (HP brand) on sale for $600. We went down and found they only had the display model left so I asked for an additional discount, after rebates and discounts we walked out with a $900 laptop for $500. Not a bad deal. My neighbor who works for the government was issued a similar laptop recently, guess how much the government paid who by the way buys in bulk so additional discounts should be awarded to them and not have the prices jacked up! They didn’t pay $500, not even $750. Nor did they pay $900, $1500 not even close. The government instead paid $2000+ for a similar laptop to the one my wife now has and they paid 4 times what they should have paid for 1. But since they bought in bulk I would think they should have gotten it even cheaper.

And we wonder why we have debt as a nation?

Let’s see someone in Washington have the guts to talk about financial responsibility. Let’s see our tax money being spent wisely and then I don’t care to pay more taxes to help the country rebound. What we don’t need are more cuts to drive us deeper into debt UNLESS we as a nation file bankruptcy and call a “do over.” Wouldn’t that be nice?

Come to think of it, we are the strongest nation in the world. We always help other people. Why don’t we charge the countries we assist a fee? I mean we are extorting our own citizens. Isn’t that what congress, the house and the president did when they kept telling us if we didn’t pass the bailout plan we would suffer? Sounds like a mob tactic to me.

So in the end, we got the straight talk express whose priorities appear to be crooked and likes to call everyone “my friends.” And then we got Obama who presents himself very well but from what I have seen in the debates he never fully explains his answers so he really to me appears to be to Green, that meaning his stance is not known on a lot of things. Perhaps that is what we need, I don’t know, it’s up to the voters to decide. But at this time both the candidates appear to be focused on taxes and as of late “Joe the Plumber.” So I say unto you, raise my taxes if you show me what you are doing with my money. And no I am not a 6 digit income person. It sure would be nice but I manage my household , it seems like all the citizens of this country should demand the government manage their spending as well.

McCain lost the campaign by himself.

October 8th, 2008

John, come on man. You were going to win.  There is only one person that can blame on you losing the presidential race in 2008, and that “my friend” is you. Yes I am predicting that you will lose big time.

I was emailed this video below and watched it and am not surprised by the content. I’m sure Obama has similar ghosts in his closet but he really is to green for them to be easy to find. But still, after the debate last night which I feel McCain lost big time because he didn’t look confident, stumbled over his words and talked “around the issues” rather then directly answering them. Like “How do we fix social security?” And Mccain says “we all know how to fix it.” Then he goes on to talk about medicare. Ummm, how do we fix it John? And when? Then you look at the scandals Mccain has been associated with and the smear tactics palin has been told to use against Obama you have a mix where McCain can win at all.  Obama on the other hand looked confident. He was very presidential in the way he appeared and talked whereas McCain hobbled around the stage thanking everyone for coming and for such great questions which he would not answer completely.

Have I mentioned how much I hate politics? Anyway, the video is below regarding the McCain “Keating Economics” and then below it is another video from CNN’s truth squad to show the validity of Obama’s claim on McCain.

So is this all true? Here’s CNN’s truth squad investigating it. They say yes.
